During the first two weeks, we have been taking time to learn more about each other and how the classroom atmosphere is going to gel together. I have really enjoyed learning who your children are as students and as disciples of His words.
Thank you all in advance for your help at home with helping your student study for the spelling test, memorize bible verses, and signing the assignment book and reading logs. Please do remember that one of my goals is to help your student to become more self-sufficient. Please continue to help them by gradually handing off the responsibility to them.
I’d like to take a minute to discuss how you can help keep the students ready to learn in the classroom. Students are allowed to have water bottles at their desks to encourage proper hydration and brain stimulation. We have our snack time during the first recess (10:00-15) and last recess (2:00-2:15), in addition to lunch. If they eat a healthy snack during the recess times, it will allow your student to have proper blood sugar for better learning.
The students are very excited to begin our class store and bank next week. It is a way for them to buy things from an individual reward system that I use in my classroom. Students earn pennies for good behavior, participation, or being a good citizen. If any parents want to contribute to the “store”, I could use some SMALL prizes similar to pencils, bookmarks, erasers…(no candy). Just have your student bring it to the classroom and give it to me while saying, “it is for the store.” Thank you!
Here is our class schedule. I will keep a current copy on the blog all year, if you need to refer back to it.
Again, I still have a somewhat personal request to ask of you all. Until November, I am an assistant coach for my son’s high school water polo team. I have to leave WHCS to make it to practices and games by 3:10 everyday. I was wondering if any of you would have the freedom to supervise my class in carpool from 3:05 until 3:25. I have created a signup, so you can sign up, if you are willing and able. I appreciate your generosity!
This week's bible verse: What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something, but you don’t get it. James 4:1-2
