Week 6 Newsletter

This week we will begin our twice-a-year MAP (computerized) testing.  I will encourage your student to try to do their best, by working on goal setting for learning.  I will spend some time discussing how we can all push our learning further.  Our tests will occur on Mondays Oct. 17 and 24 from 1 - 2 pm and on Fridays Oct 21 and 28 from 8:30-9:30am.  On those days, please be sure they eat a great breakfast and bring a good lunch, so their brain activity can be maximized at the test times.  Please try to avoid any absences during these hours on each day...if at all possible.  There will be only one make-up session for any absences during any of these times.

The following Thursday (10/27), we will be going to the Oregon Food Bank in Beaverton for a service project.  We will meet with the staff and learn more about helping others less fortunate than ourselves.  Students may want to bring a coat, because we could work in the “Cold Room”, but regardless of where we work...closed toed shoes are a must.  ALL STUDENTS NEED TO ARRIVE IN THE CLASSROOM AT 8:55.  Since this is a Thursday Late Start, I wanted to give you advanced warning!  We will be riding in cars driven by parents.  Chaperones and drivers should report to the classroom at the same time.  We will leave at 9:00, to assure a 9:30 arrival time at OFB.  We will arrive back to WHCS just around lunchtime...11:45.  Please pray for our safe travels and that the students understand the service they are performing.
In order to get progress reports emailed out on Wednesday, October 26, I will be temporarily closing our grade books on Friday, October 21. This means that all late/absent homework needs to be turned in and all tests should be made up by Friday in order to be counted on this report. Please note that this progress report is just a snapshot of your child’s grades to this point. I will also be sending out a missing work report at the same time.  Grades will not be finalized for report cards until Christmas break.

Biography book reports are due on October 28.  If you need another copy of the project, click here.  All students should have brought their book to school today and we will complete some necessary parts in class work for the project.
