Week 11 Newsletter

I want to thank each of you for the time we spent discussing your student.  This allows me to see each student a little more wholly.  The time we used to talk about your child will allow me to better teach them.  It is truly a blessing to team with each of you to better your child individually.

If you ever feel it necessary to have another conference, I will make myself available.  Please let me know via email and we can find a time that works for the both of us.

As a reminder, all students should finish reading their realistic fiction book this week and should start responding to the questions, from the main character’s point of view, on the Character Day Information Sheet.  The realistic fiction book should be more than 125 pages.  It should not be a book from a series, nor a graphic novel.  Their Character Day Presentation is on Dec. 8.

Don’t forget to continue studying the prepositions, because the students have an overall test over each of the 5 sets of propositions on December 9.  Here is the list to study from.

Week 10 Newsletter

I am truly looking forward to conferencing with each family next week.  I will do my best to show which areas your student is excelling, and which areas may need additional assistance at home.  As always, if you feel there is something that we need to discuss before or after conferences, do not hesitate to contact me. Click here to find my conference schedule.

Now that we have finished our Young Peacemakers curriculum, we will starting a new bible curriculum (Purposeful Design) which will last for the remainder of the year. We will study the basic doctrines of the Church. With this curriculum we will get to the heart of what God's message is and how it applies to each and every one of us.  Students will have homework several times a week from this workbook.

If your child is unsure of their address, please review it with them tonight. They will need to know it for an assignment we’ll be doing in class. If they do not know it, please have them write it down in their assignment book tonight, so they can refer to it when needed for the assignment.

Last week, I assigned the next book report which is due in about a month.  They should try to finish the book within the next couple weeks, by December 1.  This is a fun report for many students.  They are going to be a character from a realistic fiction book.  Their “report” is a presentation as the character of their book.  I explained the book report to them last week.  Here is the information sheet that I sent home last week.  The realistic fiction book should be more than 125 pages.  It should not be a book from a series, nor a graphic novel.  Their Character Day Presentation is on Dec. 8.

As the weather changes this time of the year, encourage your student to wear appropriate clothes to school. I will encourage all students to wear their coats to recess on cool days.   Please make sure you give them the opportunity to bring warm clothes to school every day.

This week, I will assign the next book report which is due in about a month.  They should try to finish the book within the next three weeks, by December 1.  This turns out to be a fun report for many of the students.  They are going to be a character from a realistic fiction book.  Their “report” is a presentation as the character of their book.  I will be explaining the book report to them this week.  Here is the information sheet that I will send home later this week.  The realistic fiction book should be more than 125 pages.  It should not be a book from a series, nor a graphic novel.  Their Character Day Presentation is on Dec. 8.

Sometime in the first part of December, we will be participating in the preliminary classroom evaluation portion of the National Geographic Geography Bee which is open to grades 4-8 nationwide. (There is no grade associated with this!) If your student would like to visit the website to prepare or study, there are sample questions located at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/ . Reading log mishap

No reading logs are due on Monday.  Due to an error on my part, I did not have the copies prepared in time to hand out the logs this week.  I forgot to send this message earlier this week, so I apologize for any inconveniences I may have caused.

This will be a one-week "vacation" from reading.  But I told the students today, if they have been reading and they want to submit a reading log with minutes only in ANY format, I will award them with an extra penny (which is a small individual reward).
