In science, we have started a new unit on magnetism and electricity. In one of the science labs soon, they will need to use 2 D-size batteries for tomorrow’s lab. Please send them to school tomorrow with your student in a labeled bag and they will return in about a month.
I forgot to remind the students today as they left, but don’t forget that tomorrow, Tuesday, is recorder day, if you student is playing with Mrs. Brumley.
This week, we will begin working on your student’s Wax Museum character. As I have said before, nearly all work for the 4th grade Wax Museum is done entirely in class. But, there is one small part that will help them to get fully ready. Tonight and tomorrow night, each student should spend their 30 minutes of reading each day, reading through their information. Now that they know why their person was important to the west, they should start to find out more information about their life. The idea behind this is that the students will be pretty familiar with their character before they begin taking notes on Wednesday. All information needs to be brought into class on Wednesday otherwise your child won’t have anything to work on while the rest of the students are taking notes. All resources will need to stay at school until the note taking session is completed (in about 3 weeks).
On Feb.17, we are going to Fort Clatsop in Astoria to learn more about the Lewis and Clark Expedition on an experiential field trip. Due to the distance of this field trip, the students will need to arrive early to school this day. If you have a carpool group, please plan accordingly. We will start to load the bus at 7:45 and depart shortly after. We should arrive back to school in time for carpool. If you want to chaperone the field trip, contact the Room Moms. We will be going regardless of weather, so please have your student dress accordingly. Please note: they will need a lunch from home this day. If you regularly order hot lunches, they will still need to bring one from home this day.
