Week 19 Newsletter

We will finish our novel studies this week, and we will begin to show two of the three movies as a wrap up: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Because of Winn-Dixie.  Since they are both rated PG, it is common practice for me to inform the parents.  Students that read the book will watch the same movie.  If you have any specific questions about the movies, I can answer them, since I have seen both movies several times.

Next week on Wednesday (Feb. 15) during morning recess students can look look through commonly used parts of clothing for your child’s Wax Museum character.  We don’t have any full sets of clothing, but we have many parts that will work with many different characters.  Please let your student know what types of items to look for, but Mrs. Porter and I can make some suggestions if requested.  I expect all students will return the items shortly after the performance on March 17.

On Valentine’s Day, we will be having a very small in-class celebration in the morning.   We will be creating envelopes in class (no boxes please).  Please remember, exchanging Valentines is an optional event and if your student chooses to participate, they must include a Valentine for each student (class list found here).   Your student may include a piece/package of candy with the Valentines, if you want.   To assure that your students do not eat too much candy, please discuss if they may eat a piece at lunch, otherwise it will all be sent home with your student at the end of the day.

On Feb.17, we are going to Fort Clatsop in Astoria to learn more about the Lewis and Clark Expedition on an experiential field trip.  Due to the distance of this field trip, the students will need to arrive early to school this day.  If you have a carpool group, please plan accordingly.  We will start to load the bus at 7:45 and depart shortly after.  We should arrive back to school in time for carpool.  If you want to chaperone the field trip, contact the Room Moms.  We will be going regardless of weather, so please have your student dress accordingly.  Please note: they will need a lunch from home this day.  If you regularly order hot lunches, they will still need to bring one from home this day.

Your child’s Bible verse this week is their Proverbs verse, and the verse test will be on Wednesday.
