Week 21 Newsletter

What a great trip to Fort Clatsop we had on Friday!  It was great to see where and how the Lewis and Clark Expedition lived during the winter of 1805/1806.  I hope this will remain as a highlight of their year in 4th grade.  Our next field trip will be to the Aurora Colony on Thursday, March 23 (the day before Spring Break).  This will be another way the students can experience authentic history right in front of them.

Just to keep you in the loop, we are a little behind in writing our Wax Museum speeches.  Don’t worry, they will finish in plenty of time.  We are beginning to write our rough drafts this week and they will turn it into me for a grade next week.  This part of the project is done entirely at school.  You can support them at home by asking how it is going and what they accomplished each day.  I take them through a slow and purposeful process to learn how to take proper notes, create a rough draft, edit it, and create a final draft.  On Friday, March 3, the corrected rough drafts will be sent home to be typed into a Final Draft.  They will start this process at school, but it will need to finished at home.  The rough drafts are due (electronic copy only) on Tuesday, March 7.

Hoop-a-thon pledge information was sent home last week. Hopefully students have already started getting pledges.  Remember that the pledges can be “turned in” online this year.  Click here to find out more!
