I hope everyone had an enjoyable Spring Break. My family and I spent some time relaxing at home and vacationing in Seattle. We got to hike, relax in the sun (only a little bit), and my children played in a tournament while I watched and cheered. It was a great time of family bonding for us, and i hope it was for your family as well.
Now it is time to buckle down since the third term has began, and it is time to get even more ready for 5th grade. In the next few weeks, we will begin studying three new units. In science we will begin a weather unit next week, so we will have a test on the Matter unit on Thursday. We will begin reading a new novel (in commingled 4th grade groups) in a couple weeks. Lastly, in social studies (history) we will begin studying the Western states and capitals. We will study a new section or the US every two weeks with a culminating quiz at the end of the two weeks. After eight weeks, we will have a final test over ALL of the states and capitals!
Our last book report of the year will be a written book report on a Newbery Award or Newbery Honor book. The students should pick out their book this week. The book needs to be at least 125 pages and needs to be read by May 1. This report will be done in class entirely. The only work they need to accomplish at home is reading the book by May 1.
