We will start studying the Southeast states this week. The quiz on will be on Thursday, May 25. This will be the last group of states. Do not forget to help them keep the previous states in their minds, because we will have a test over all 50 states and capitals on June 2.
Last week, your student chose their state for the State Float project. Soon, your student should begin working on what they will use for the base of the float. It must be something that your student can push or pull. Your student was given a list last week, but here is a list of the requirements for the project. They will conduct research on computers at school this week and next week. By the end of next week, they will bring home a hand-drawn map and flag that they must use on their float. There is a parade of all state floats on June 8 at 2:30 on the track. Everyone is invited to come and watch the parade. Plan to take the floats home on June 8 at the end of the day. If you have a carpool, please make arrangements.
Next week, your students will need to bring in recyclables and fun things to make an imaginary animal in science lab for May 23. Your student has a partner and together they are responsible for making the animal completely out of all the items that they bring to school. Additionally, they may bring a small glue gun from home if they would like, but to use it Mrs. Swain requires authorization from you since there is the possibility of an injury if used improperly. If your student doesn't bring a glue gun, you may still want to allow them to use one since there will be one extra students can use. Look for an email later this week for the authorization.
A few parents have already stepped forward with some wonderful donations, but as a reminder; I like to have a fun auction for the students to spend their pennies earned throughout the year. If you have any items you can donate to the End of Year Auction, from now until the end of the May, I would appreciate it. Any inexpensive toys or crafts and fun items for the kids to do during summertime is what I am looking for. Items from the past have been: ice cream cone coupons, rubber balls, squirt guns, activity books. I accept gently used items too, if you want to get rid of something others would enjoy.
Current Bible verse: He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. 2 Timothy 1:9
(Verse Test on 5/17)
Next Bible verse: Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 (Verse Test May 25 )
